BRIEF

The goal was to create a smart, punchy zine that explored Medusa's character as a feminist symbol.

WHAT I DID

Despite my efforts to find high-quality photos of the featured statues, my decision to illustrate the front cover was a way to avoid an overly pixelated cover. Merging the illustration with the photo (on the back cover) created an exciting opportunity to juxtapose Medusa's portrayal as a beheaded beast with her symbol of female ferocity.

RESULT

The zine's satirical aesthetic utilizes humor as an invitation for vulnerability to reflect on the heavy historical themes of sexism and sexual violence. The zine challenges Medusa's demonization by combining a bright color palette with playful typography.
